SMITH EXPRESSES DISAPPOINTMENT AT POST OFFICE DECISION

12.00.00am GMT Tue 4th Dec 2007

North East Fife MSP, Iain Smith has expressed his disappointment at the decision by the Post Office to move its St Andrews branch into the premises of WH Smith on South Street.

Commenting on the announcement, Iain Smith said, "I have had repeated communication with the Post Office throughout this consultation period putting across the views of the many constituents who have contacted me about this matter.

"I am disappointed that the Post Office seems to have ignored the very genuine concerns raised by local residents about the inadequacy of the proposed premises to meet the specific needs of St Andrews customers.

"The Post Office really must show that they have addressed these concerns fully if they are to convince the people of St Andrews that the consultation was anything other than tokenism," concluded Mr Smith.
