North East Fife's local candidate Iain Smith has welcomed the Scottish Liberal Democrat plan to kick start the economy and create 100,000 jobs by using £1.5 billion raised by selling the debt Scottish Water owe the Scottish Government.
The plans, described by the Chief Secretary to the Treasury as a 'win-win', would see the creation of 100,000 new jobs and the restoration of growth to the Scottish economy. Central to this plan is investment in a greener economy with the creation of 33,000 jobs in offshore renewables and a further 10,000 jobs in supporting energy efficiency.
North East Fife would also benefit from the creation of Regional Development Banks which, since the disastrous decision by the SNP, supported by the Conservatives, to scrap Scottish Enterprise Fife, will provide much needed support for the small and medium sized businesses which form the core of our local economy. Additionally, it will mean significant investment in faster broadband to make Scotland the most digitally connected economy in Europe.
Mr Smith who convened the Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee in the last Scottish Parliament said, "This is a once in a generation opportunity which will not only create jobs for local people in North East Fife, but means warmer homes, lower energy bills and a greener environment."
