Iain Smith MSP has written to the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure & Climate Change asking what has happened to the improved access to the southbound platform at Cupar which, according to Transport Scotland, was expected to be completed by last month.
In his letter Mr Smith said, 'Although work has begun to upgrade the booking office, including a lower counter for passengers in wheelchairs, there is as yet not a sign of any work to make the southbound platform more accessible. Elderly passengers and those with children in pushchairs still face a struggle up a steep flight of stairs which is impossible to negotiate for the wheelchair-bound. I would be grateful for an update on what has happened to the promised access improvement.'
Mr Smith welcomed the prospect of a booking office counter which wheelchair users could conveniently use but observed, 'Until the promised improved access to the southbound platform is in place, there will be little point in their buying any tickets apart from singles going north.'
