March 5, 2009 1:00 PM

Iain Smith and Sir Menzies Campbell at the St Andrews Hospital SiteNorth East Fife's MP and MSP Sir Menzies Campbell and Iain Smith have welcomed the good progress being made on the under construction St Andrews Hospital and have given the project a "clean bill of health".

Sir Menzies and Mr Smith who visited the site recently were given a tour by NHS Fife's Chairman Professor James McGoldrick, Chair of the Glenrothes and North East Fife CHP Graham Watson, Managing Director of Morrison Construction Scotland David Downey, Project Manager Jim Stewart and Clinical Lead Andy Kilpatrick.

Commenting on the visit Iain Smith said:

"It is not just those in St Andrews who will benefit from the new hospital but people from Auchtermuchty to Tayport and Cupar to Anstruther. The whole of the constituency will reap the benefits of more localised healthcare.

"It is a magnificent looking building and it is clear that a great deal of work has been put into it design and eco friendly credentials. This is a very welcome development here in North East Fife and is one that has been desperately needed for a number of years."

Sir Menzies said:

"Good progress has been made on the site an I am very impressed with everything that I saw. There is no doubt that the whole of north east Fife is eagerly awaiting the Hospital's completing and looking forward to the improvements to local healthcare it will bring Fife. The hospital gets a clean bill of health."
