North East Fife's MSP Iain Smith has tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating the Anstruther Fish Bar for being named UK Fish and Chip Shop of the Year 2008 and for its contribution to the local community.
In his motion Mr Smith notes the high quality of the fish and chips as well as using ethically sourced North Sea haddock, local Pittenweem prawns and organic cod from the world's first sustainable solution to wild-cod fisheries in Shetland.
Mr Smith said:
"The owners of the Anstruther Fish Bar, Robert and Alison Smith, really do deserve this accolade. Apart from the high standards they set for their business, the contribution they make to the local economy and tourism in the East Neuk is very important."
