Iain Smith MSP has expressed his anger at the proposed cuts in North East Fife bus services which Stagecoach claim have been forced by increasing fuel costs and low passenger numbers, and laid the blame squarely on the Scottish Government. Mr Smith said, 'The blame for these cuts lies at least partly at the feet of the SNP Ministers, for it is they who have refused to increase the Bus Service Operating Grant to compensate for the last fuel duty increases. It is madness to be cutting public transport at a time when we are trying to encourage its use, and when the increasing price of fuel might persuade car-drivers to take the bus. The cuts are a typical result of their lack of support for public transport and I will be writing to the Minister for Transport to ask what he intends to do about it.'
